just jurying

A few weeks ago I received a summons to report for jury duty this morning. At the time I opened it, I was so grateful that it wasn't for last Monday (VBS week). God is good, isn't he:) So, this morning I did my civic duty and showed up at the local judicial complex to see if they needed my services. I was the first one called for the initial selection panel (always happens with a last name of Adam). There were about 30 of us in the first panel and then a second panel. They let the rest go because 15 of the 17 initial cases pled out by the time we reached that point (about 10:30 am). Then was the interesting part. We each had to tell our name, profession, our spouse's name and profession and the city in which we live. I was the first to speak and was seriously nervous for some reason  After about a half hour of deliberation by the defense attorney and the prosecutor, they selected 13 of our group to serve as the jury for a man accused of attempted murder of a police officer, among about 14 other charges. I was NOT one of those selected. The last time I was summoned for jury duty was about 1995 or 1996 and I never even reached the panel identification stage. I met some people who had been called 3 times this year already. What a strange system.

So, I wonder if it will be another 10 years before I am called again.

**edited my mistake about the cases pled out***
