We attended the Candlelight Christmas Eve service at the Mulder Church last night. It was a beautiful service that truly helped us to keep Christ as the center of this holiday season. Our Christmas tradition has come to include going to our friends, the Browns, for time of food and fellowship after the service. Barbara outdid herself and put on a feast fit for a king. After returning home around 9:00 pm, the children got to open two presents: one of my choice (their new PJs), and one of their choice. Then everyone went to bed to try to fall asleep so Santa could come!
I woke up this morning to the sound of the pitter-patter of little feet...no, the bang, bang, bang of big feet running down the stairs as three children raced to the fireplace to see what Santa had left for them. Dan and I were still in bed, trying to get a little more sleep -- 6:00 a.m. came very early, when we heard the voice of Desmond as he was speaking to Lauren and Max, saying, "...but, I thought I had been bad!" He was so excited to see the pitching machine that was sitting there waiting for him -- and he obviously did not feel he deserved it! LOL!
By 6:30, Dan and I joined the kids in the living room so that they could begin opening all the presents that were beneath the tree. I think this is the first year in ages that we have made it past 9:00 without hearing those words most dreaded by parents on Christmas day -- I am bored. Des spent most of his spare time outside trying out the pitching machine since we were blessed with an almost Spring-like day. The rest of us rotated between cooking int he kitchen and taking turns on Max's new Guitar Hero World Tour. Yes, we rock.
It was a lovely day in many ways. After our meal, we visited Shannon (Desi's other mom) while she was at work. We were able to witness her boyfriend, Chris, propose to her and she said yes!
We are such a blessed family. I pray that the Lord blesses you all this Christmas season!
