I have always celebrated the sabbath on Sundays. Well, now I wonder if I was really celebrating them or just calling them a sabbath. Sabbath is a day of rest and worship. I do treat my sabbath days (Sundays) differently than I do the other days of the week. It is the day that I worship and study the word with other believers. But, I wonder, do I really set apart Sunday, make it special, make it different than the other six days of the week. In truth, I don't think I do a terrible job at it, but I could be better.1. The seventh day of the week, Saturday, observed as the day of rest and worship by the Jews and some Christian sects.2. The first day of the week, Sunday, observed as the day of rest and worship by most Christians.
I could prepare better by taking care of errands (shopping, etc) and chores (paying bills, doing laundry, cleaning up) on the other six days.
I could plan a evening meal so that my family could eat together (we usually dine out for lunch after church).
I could concentrate on quality time with my family instead of looking for their faults to identify and correct. This would reduce friction, arguments, whining, and all those other things that take our mind off God.
I could take a technology fast (no television or internet) on Sundays. It would really help if I could get the rest of the family in on this one, though. I think we would end up spending more interacting with each other.
I could focus on God.
"Keep the Sabbath day holy. Don't pursue your own interests on that day, but enjoy the Sabbath and speak of it with delight as the Lord's holy day. Honor the Lord in everything you do, and don't follow your own desires or talk idly. If you do this, the Lord will be your delight. I will give you great honor and give you your full share of the inheritance I promised to Jacob, your ancestor. I, the Lord, have spoken!"
Isaiah 58:13-14
