I do not have many pictures of my mother and I when I was young. I think we definitely have one trait in common – being the one who takes the picture and is rarely in the picture. This first picture was taken sometime in very early 1961 and shows my young, beautiful mother holding me during a visit to the old Fort Bliss Replica Museum.
My mom was fun. This was a time where we set up a lemonade stand in my granny’s front yard. Some of my earliest memories of these trips to granny’s house was that they usually included a trip across the street to buy an ice cream cup. They were the kind that came with the little wooden spoon:)
I have always loved this picture of me with my mom. She made these matching dresses for us to wear. I loved that dress.
I think this picture was taken sometime in 1968. I do know that it was outside our apartment in Germany right after Mom and I returned from a trip to a fair or a circus. I look like such a street urchin!
Here we are in April 1978 right before my senior prom. I cannot remember exactly why mom was dressed up, too, but I think she and dad had a banquet to attend the same night. She made my dress, on very short notice by combining several patterns to get just the dress I wanted. I loved it.
Here we are in Tallahassee at my graduation from FSU in 1983. I thank my mom for encouraging me to go to college and never give up. I would not have made it without her.
Mom was right there beside me as I became Mrs. Adam in 1987. She worked so very hard that week preparing all the food for the reception and keeping me sane.
My mom has always been there for me whenever I needed her. This last picture has always been one of my favorites. It was taken shortly after Max was born in 1997. When Max came early and she got the call, she was here within hours. When I have been so sick that I could not get out of bed, she dropped everything and came to help me. I love my mom and I hope she and all other moms have a wonderful Mother’s Day.
