Last weekend I attended my second Deeper Still Conference (attended the Atlanta one in 2008). This time I traveled to Birmingham with my daughter, Lauren, and my friends Barbara and Angie.
Barb and I decided we wanted to attend this conference (since we had been so blessed at the previous one) and grabbed up 4 tickets as soon as they were available in late March. We also wanted to stay at the Sheraton since it adjoins the BJCC and we wouldn't have to deal with transportation and parking issues Friday night and Saturday morning. It wasn't easy, but we did get a room. But, we had 4 people in a room with one bed! So, we brought an inflatable mattress and sleeping bag and everyone made it work. It was like a big slumber party...especially with the yummy snacks that we picked up at Whole Foods on the way to the hotel (after a little time of shopping and lunch at PF Changs).
After checking in the hotel and making it up to our room on the 16th floor (with questionable elevators!), we headed over to the arena to join the line. It wasn't nearly as long as we expected and we ended up being some of the first people inside. Unlike most of the other early-birds, our goal was not to get a seat on the floor, but one of the first rows around the arena so that we would have more foot room. We were blessed with just those seats both Friday and Saturday. In fact, while Kay Arthur was walking around Friday night teaching, she actually stopped right in front of Lauren and seemed to be speaking directly to her...yes, Lauren was on the jumbotron! lol! Wow...that woman can share the Word. She went through the whole book of Matthew in an hour and a half!
We headed back to the Sheraton to deal with the elevators again. That part wasn't fun and we ended up getting off at the 12th floor and walking the remainder. Saturday morning, Lauren and I headed over for an early-bird devotion by Kelly Minter while Barb and Angie checked us out and loaded up the van. We had another great day of learning, first from Kelly, then from Priscilla Shirer (Tony Evans daughter) and then Beth Moore. I will be taking a few days to put together a few posts from my notes (hopefully it won't take me two years to publish them like the last time!).
We left around 3 and headed back home, listening to Auburn play South Carolina in the SEC Championship game. War Eagle!
I am so grateful to my sweet husband for always being willing to take over at home and let me have some time of renewal. I love that man.
