Our 20th wedding anniversary was last Wednesday, June 27, 2007. To celebrate, Dan planned a weekend away in Atlanta. Max was at Webelos Camp and Lauren watched Desi (with my friend, Barb's, help). After Max left for camp, Dan and I packed the van and headed east. I had no idea what he had planned. When we got closer to downtown Atlanta, Dan told me we were heading for Alpharetta to
Harry's, a Whole Foods grocery store where Food Network's
Alton Brown shops. When I heard that, I remembered that my college roommate, Linda Cannon, now lived in Alpharetta. I hadn't seen her in over 20 years, so I called and we planned to meet for lunch on Saturday. After stopping at Harry's, Dan took me to our surprise destination. We were staying at the
King-Keith House in the Inman Park area of Atlanta. He had arranged for us to stay in the romantic cottage in back. Pure paradise:)

We decided to drive to a nearby neighborhood and see what restaurant looked interesting. We decided upon
Babette's Cafe, which proved to be a delightful and delicious experience. I had roasted chicken with polenta and artichokes and a yummy blueberry tart while Dan sampled the Mussells and had lamb chops for dinner.

Before meeting Linda and her family for lunch on Saturday, Dan and I checked out Underground Atlanta where they had a
hot air balloon. Somehow, Dan convinced me to go for a ride. I have pictures to prove it! LOL! Although this shot shows me sitting down, I did finally stand up and was able to enjoy the view. What a ride.

We met Linda and her family for lunch at
Mick's on Peachtree Street (I had the Southwest Chicken Salad and it was delicious!). She brought her newest foster baby, Yazmin, who was just adorable. We also met her husband, David and son, Walker. What a blast from the past:)

After lunch on Saturday, we headed for
Atlantic Station for an afternoon of shopping and just checking out the sights. We headed back to the cottage to freshen up before heading out to dinner at
Aria. It was such a fun place and different from anywhere we had ever been. I started with a sweet peach martini and had an amazingly tender roasted pork over polenta and spinach and a mouth-drippingly lucious peach tart with peach ice-cream.
Our host made a delicious ham and goat cheese strata for breakfast Sunday morning. We shared our meal with two other couples staying in the house -- a couple from Rhode Island and a quite interesting and eclectic couple from Chicago/Los Angeles. We headed back home just in time to meet Max for lunch at his camp.
This was THE BEST weekend ever. I told Dan we MUST do this more often!
