celebrating 21

Dan and I celebrated our 21st wedding anniversary a little early last night. Our actual anniversary is this Friday, June 27, but I will be in Atlanta with friends attending this. Last fall when I first found out about this event I was so excited...until I saw that it was on the weekend of our anniversary. Dan was so sweet to tell me to go on and go:)

But, back to last night...

We started the evening in downtown Montgomery with dinner with friends at Lek's. We had spring rolls, basil rolls, cucumber salad, railroad rolls, the volcano, and some sushi rolls with granny smith apples (I can't seem to find them on the online menu, but they were available last night and quite tasty). It was a perfect beginning to the night. After we finished dining, we headed over to the new Montgomery Center for the Performing Arts where we saw the one-night show of Jesus Christ Superstar.

Dan and I took the children to see the Alabama State University (ASU) production of Jesus Christ Superstar last year and it was a great experience. So, when Dan found out in March that the off-broadway version would be in Montgomery, and it would be during the week of our anniversary, it just seemed the perfect way to celebrate.

So, how was it? Although it was more professional, with actors who have more experience and training, the 'soul' was just not there. The show at ASU was almost a worship experience, while the off-broadway was just entertainment. Yes, it was good entertainment, but that was all. Other than the 60-year old Jesus and the Caiaphas who's voice was, well it was just strange, I could still recommend others to see this production if it came to their town.
