our hope and confidence

scriptures1Earlier this year, I posted my goal to memorize scripture and how I was joining the folks at the Living Proof Ministries (Beth Moore’s ministry) Blog on the 2011 Siesta Scripture Memorization Team.  The goal is to memorize two scripture verses each month (of our own choosing), posting them on the blog on the 1st and 15th of each month.  So far, I have been able to memorize these 8 scriptures:
  1. “He is your constant source of stability; He abundantly provides safety and great wisdom; He gives all this to those who fear Him.”  Isaiah 33:6 (NET)
  2. “Therefore as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, having been firmly rooted and now being established in your faith, just as you were instructed, and overflowing with gratitude.”  Colossians 2:6-7 (NASB)
  3. “And God is able to make all grace abound in you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.”  2 Corinthians 9:8 (NIV)
  4. “To those who are open to my teaching, more understanding will be given, and they will have an abundance of knowledge.  But to those who are not listening, even what they have will be taken away from them.”  Matthew 13:12 (NLT)
  5. “So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded.  You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.”  Hebrews 10:35-36 (NIV)
  6. “So stay awake and be prepared, because you do not know the day or hour of my return.”  Matthew 25:13 (NLT)
  7. “Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult, but with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing.”  1 Peter 3:9 (NIV)
  8. “There, my dear brothers, stand firm.  Let nothing move you.  Always give yourself fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.”  1 Corinthians 15:58 (NIV)
Today is the 1st, so it’s time for a new verse:

“But blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence.”  Jeremiah 17:7 (NLT)

I have never done anything like this before.  Of course, until last year, I had never read the entire Bible before.  Through his Word, the Lord is opening my eyes, my heart, and my mind to his will.  With every scripture committed to memory, I have more weapons to fight the unrighteousness that is all around me in this world.  They are strong tools from the Lord.  How about joining me?  Let us work together to increase and strengthen our arsenals.
