saying goodbye

Last night around 6:00 pm, Matthew Streeter Burnham left his earthly home and parents to be in the arms of Jesus.

I will always remember the last Sunday he was at church (2 weeks ago) and bending down next to his carseat and talking with him. He was such a little flirt! He just smiled and cooed at me with every word I said. He was just so sweet I wanted to eat him up!

The next Thursday was the day of his next surgery, which would be followed by seven more over the following week. I remember the call I received at church that night during our fifth night of Vacation Bible School. It was a call that the surgery did not go well and that things were not looking good for Matthew. I gathered around all of the workers who were near the office and we stood in a circle and prayed for him, his healing, and his parents.

His little body just could not take anymore last night. He is now in no pain. His short life made such a huge difference in the lives of so many others.

I will miss him. But, as Max reassured me last night, we will see him again in heaven one day.
