adventure in atlanta

If it isn't clear yet, I have decided to add a post each day of some of our activities over the past few months (during my 'break' from blogging). Today's update post tells a little about the field trip that Max's gifted education class took to Atlanta earlier this month. We left early on a Thursday morning and returned Friday evening. It was a fun-filled, very organized trip. Our first stop was a tour of the Carlos Museum at Emery University. We were blessed to have a very knowledgeable docent who had a gift of communicating with the children. When we left Emery, we headed to the CNN Center Food Court for lunch before taking a tour through the CNN studios. THAT was fun:) We really lucked out to begin our tour as the space shuttle was taking off. We were sitting in the tour 'theater' watching it taking off on the huge screen, with all the commentators surrounding it on their own screens, listening to the director (who even commented on us...off line, of course).

After finally checking into our hotel, we headed out to dinner at Medieval Times, which the kids just loved. It was one of those large arenas encircled by long tables where your 'wench' throws your food on your plate:) Unfortunately, our assigned knight (the Yellow Knight) did not win the tournament. But, he was great with the kids, even with their heckling.

The next day we headed out to the new World of Coke (Coca-Cola Museum), where we learned how the beverages are bottled, caught up on some history, and even got to taste Coca-Cola products from all over the world (do NOT try the Beverly, trust me). We then headed over the The Varsity for lunch of hamburgers and the very best onion rings I have ever had. It had a great character and ambiance -- try it out if you are in downtown Atlanta. I really like this picture I snapped of Max and his friend, Andrew, outside the museum.

Our last stop before heading home was the Atlanta Aquarium. Max especially enjoyed petting the stingrays. But, I believe his favorite of the day was listening to the beluga whales. He could have stayed there all day.
